McConnell?s Not a Rand Paul, but He?s Better Than a Judd

Would Kentucky voters back Ashley Judd in a Senate race against Republican and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, should the actress choose to run? Yahoo News asked them for their thoughts. Here's one.

COMMENTARY | For me, the choice is not really between Judd and McConnell as much as it is a choice between an Obama-supporting Democrat and a Republican, no matter how conservatively weak.

Kentucky is a red state with blue pockets around the university areas, and I'm a red voter here in Danville. That's not going to change by 2014, given that I hate Obamacare, the president's hostility toward the military and guns, and his disdain for the people who carry the latter for the former to protect the homeland. The handling of Benghazi was a disgrace.

Nothing Judd can say or do is going to make me trust her. Democrats spend too much of my money, they and know nothing about job creation, tax cuts, prosperity or individual freedoms. Kentuckians need jobs, not speeches from a socialist. I want more conservatism, not less, especially since Rand Paul's heroic filibuster showed me what leadership can be. I want someone who will stand up to Obama and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, and who can demand and get answers to the tough questions. If the Republicans can take the Senate and keep the House, America may yet be set on a path to solvency.

The real question for me: Can the Republicans find another Rand Paul by 2014 to replace McConnell? They're sure going to try. But, if they can't, I'll vote for Mitch. Half a loaf of Republican bread is better than a milquetoast Democrat any day.
