Seahawks pull even in CAA

HARRISONBURG, VA. | Jordan Ramsey delivered six innings of one-run baseball and Drew Farber knocked in three runs as UNCW topped James Madison 9-1 in Colonial Athletic Association baseball action Saturday.

The Seahawks (12-7, 1-1 CAA) halted the Dukes' (11-7, 4-1 CAA) nine-game winning streak, which ranked fifth in the nation.

Ramsey (2-2) scattered 10 hits and walked two while striking out five. The Seahawk bullpen of Kelly Secrest, Justin Livengood and Jack Lane allowed just one base runner in the final three innings.

UNCW drops pair in softball

Sophomore Cheyenne Griffin hit a two-run home run in the top of the seventh to erase a one-run deficit and lead USC Upstate to a 4-3 victory over UNCW in the second game of a collegiate softball doubleheader Saturday at Boseman Field. The Spartans took the first contest of the twinbill by a 6-0 margin.

The Spartans improved to 21-2 overall with the sweep. The Seahawks, meanwhile, moved to 10-14.

Game one saw USC Upstate take a 2-0 lead in the top of the third before doubling their advantage to 4-0 in the top of the fourth on a two-run home run by freshman Mellena Helms.

Another shutout for men's tennis

UNCW sailed to its ninth shutout of the season on Saturday by clipping Illinois State 7-0 in men?s tennis at the UNCW Courts.

Playing in pleasant conditions, UNCW racked up its fourth shutout in the past five matches. The Seahawks pushed their record to 10-4 overall and remained undefeated in nine matches at home.
